How Hollywood star Liam Neeson ended up starring in a house listing video for suburban Melbourne home

Hollywood legend Liam Neeson has lent his star power to a house listing video for a suburban home in Melbourne.

The 72-year-old, who is currently Down Under filming the crime thriller The Mongoose, features in the amusing promo which uses famous catchphrases from Neeson's 2008 box office hit Taken.

Neeson agreed to provide a voice-over for the clip because he is friends with the family, who own the four-bedroom home in Mulgrave.

Going to auction on March 1, this modern two-storey home, which includes a pool, has a price guide of $1.3million to $1.4million.

Neeson became acquainted with the family - Dean Fay, his wife Sonia and their daughters - while making films in Australia, reported the Herald Sun on Tuesday.

In the promo, Neeson, who was unable to appear in the clip due to filming commitments, is heard telling sales Ming Xu to send him a video of the house.

Set to go under the hammer at auction on March 1, the modern two-storey home has been listed with a price guide of $1.3million to $1.4million

He mentioned that he doesn't have time to inspect the property personally because he is busy making a film.

Xu then tells Neeson that he better be quick to buy the house or it will be 'taken' - a cheeky reference to the star's hit franchise.

'Oh, very original,' the action star sarcastically replies.

The punch line of the video uses another nod to Taken, in which a suited figure can be seen standing in front of the Mulgrave home.

Xu, who is relaxing in a pool, takes a call from the menacing-sounding Neeson.

'I didn't give you the address,' the agent tells the star, who replies: 'I told you I'd find you.'

Owner Dean Fay told the Herald Sun that he wrote a script and Neeson made some changes before recoding his dialogue.

'Not many actors would do that for a buddy at the end of the day,' the filmmaker said.

'He's a very generous guy.'

Dean is a well-known assistant director who has worked with Neeson on projects, including 2022's Blacklight, which was filmed in Melbourne and Canberra.

Meanwhile, the couple's daughter, Lucy, is also known to the Irish-born actor, having worked with Neeson on a number of projects.

According to the publication, Neeson agreed to perform some dialogue for the clip as a 'gesture' because the owners had supplied him with berries for his breakfast yoghurt while he was on location Down Under shooting his movies.

Dean and his daughter Lucy co-ordinated Neeson's role in the clip, which also features Biggins Real Estate agents Jing Chen and Ming Xu.

Located 29km from the CBD, the Mulgrave pad is a well-appointed modern home featuring a spacious kitchen with breakfast island and a thoughtful open-plan layout.

Highlights include a large entertainment and a pool and lavish master bedroom.

It comes after Neeson announced he was ready to close the curtain on his action-hero era.

He said that at age 72, he was ready to step away from high-energy films after enjoying a thrilling career resurgence in roles like Taken, Star Wars, and The Grey.

He admits the physical demands are catching up with him, acknowledging it's time to step aside as some stunts may soon be beyond his reach.

'I'm 72—it has to stop at some stage,' Neeson shared with People last October.

'You can't fool audiences. I don't want Mark [his longtime stunt double Mark Vanselow] to be fighting my fight scenes for me.'

Hailing from Northern Ireland, Liam began his film journey with the 1978 movie Pilgrim's Progress.

His breakout came with Schindler's List, where his powerful performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor at 41.

In 1999, he stepped into the Star Wars universe, portraying Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace.

Following his Star Wars debut, Neeson's career took a sharp turn toward action, with roles in films like Batman Begins and Taken, the latter transforming him into an unexpected action star well into his 50s.

Down Under the fan favourite has filmed action films such as Blacklight, and Ice Road 2, which was filmed in Australia.
