EA has officially re-released the Sims 1 and 2, but they've also brought back something that fans didn't miss: the bugs and crashes. The Sims franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and as part of the festivities, EA has re-released the first two games in the series. The games are supposed to be optimized for modern computers, but some fans are discovering that this is not the case as many players report game crashes.
The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 were re-released as part of their own Legacy Collections after being teased earlier in the week with some cryptic images on The Sims' socials. The re-release includes the base games and expansion packs updated to work on current-gen PCs, as well as The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle, which includes both titles. Both collections are priced at $19.99, or $39.99 for both as part of the bundle. However, many fans are deciding to wait before making any purchase as reports flood into the EA forums of the game frequently crashing, with many players unable to even launch the titles.
Sims Fans Are Holding Out On Purchasing The Re-Released Titles
Frequent Crashes Plague The Sims 1 And 2
The Sims fans are taking to Reddit and other forums to report crashing issues with their Legacy Collections. "That was quick," says Redditor Whale_Bonk_You, sharing a screenshot of one of these crashes happening right at the beginning of the game after making their first family (which, luckily, did save). "Just had enough time to create the family."

The Sims: Legacy Collection Has A Major Hurdle To Overcome For Newer Sims Fans
The Sims 1 will be getting a re-release, but its significantly higher difficulty may be an issue for fans of newer entries in the series.
Other The Sims players are reporting similar issues, with crashes happening early in the game and continuing throughout. Many, like thetoebeansdance, plan to wait for the game to resolve the crashing issues before buying the games. "This is just so lame," says the Redditor. "This is why I waited and I'm still going to wait." Fans are surprised EA didn't do better testing prior to launch, considering how popular the re-release was going to be. The issues are putting a damper on the community's excitement about the returning titles, as players wait for the issues to be ironed out.
Our Take: The Sims Re-Release Brings Back Nostalgia, Even With The Crashing
The Crashing Actually Contributes To The Nostalgia

The crashing might be a bug, not a feature, but Reddit user dorgodorgo notes that back when The Sims 2 was originally out, game crashes were just as prevalent. They jokingly note, "Authentic to the original experience, I see. It’s perfect." Other fans note that the original The Sims games are what taught them to save frequently, a habit they continued to use throughout their lives, at least until auto-save became a more common feature in games.
The re-release of The Sims 1 and 2 is still a cause for celebration, bringing back two titles that contributed to many players' love of the series and of gaming, in general. The Sims franchise has come a long way since its beginning in 2000, when the game launched an entire genre that's still going strong to this day. The 25-year celebrations continue despite the issues, with nostalgic new content announcements and special events keeping fans occupied while they wait for a fix to the remastered titles.
