Zoe Saldaña hysterically reveals why her husband missed her Critics Choice Awards win

He may be sleeping on the couch tonight! Zoe Saldaña was emotional as she accepted her award for Best Supporting Actress on Friday night - humorously pointing out her husband was in the bathroom.

While overcome with emotion on stage, the 46-year-old quipped that her significant other, Marco Perego-Saldaña, had timed his trip to the bathroom rather poorly.

'My husband's back in the bathroom,' she said after being handed the Critics Choice Award for her role in the controversial film Emilia Pérez.

'He literally went to the bathroom,' she laughed.

Her win for the Netflix film was particularly surprising as it comes after the discovery of racist and Islamophobic tweets from Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón threatened to derail the film's awards hopes.

The actress was in tears as she delivered a moving speech, despite her significant other being in the bathroom right before her category was announced. She called winning the award an 'incredible honor.'

'To my fellow nominees, the films this year and the work you've all done. It's breathtaking,' she said. 'I will forever be proud to be among you. Thank you to all of you. I can't see you, but you f***ing rock,' she continued.

She shared thanks for French director Jacques Audiard and the 'cast and crew' generally, without stating Gascón's name.

Zoe jokingly referenced criticism she has received in the past, including that she is in 'too many franchises,' and that the Avatar and Guardians Of The Galaxy star is 'too blue.'

'Whenever you receive a negative criticism for a role or a film, everyone says, don't read the reviews,' she continued. 'Then when you get the positive feedback, everyone says, did you read the reviews?'

'I do sometimes. I sometimes read the reviews and I internalize it, especially the really insightful and helpful feedback, like, "Her crying is really distracting. She's in too many franchises," or my personal favorite, "She's too blue." So I will listen to you all tonight, and I will accept this with pride. Thank you.'

'To think that Emilia Pérez has been the little movie that could and has resonated with so many people has been an experience worth having,' Saldaña continued.

She went on to thank the people closest to her.

'Thank you to my family, especially my incredible husband and my nephew, who is with me tonight. You made me, me. So thank you, and to my boys, my greatest adventure and my toughest critics. I love you.

'My wish for the impact of this film on audiences in our world is that I hope we can all be curious and open hearted towards each other, because you never know when you'll have the opportunity to be a hero, and someone else's story. So, our world is too big and too beautiful to be any other way so stay curious, stay kind and stay blue, not too blue,' she concluded the speech.

The Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler, are finally taking place at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, after twice being delayed due to the devastating LA fires.

The show was first slated to take place on Sunday, January 12, before being pushed to Sunday, January 26.

But due to the venue's close proximity to the fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades, ceremony officials decided to push the show to February.

Wicked, Conclave and Shogun led the nominations.

Wicked scored the most Critics Choice Awards 2025 nominations, including major nods for its stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, as the musical tied Conclave for the most nominations with 11.

Both Wicked and Conclave were up for the biggest prize of the night in Best Picture, which went to Anora.
