When to watch Alavés vs. Real Madrid

  • Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT)

Where to watch

  • Alavés vs. Real Madrid will air in the US on ESPN Select.

Nothing less than a win will likely do for under-pressure Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso as he looks to hush the mounting speculation around his future at the club with a victory away at midtable Alavés in La Liga.

Manchester City piled the pressure on the under-fire Alonso with a 2-1 win over Real in midweek in the UEFA Champions League, a match that had previously been reported as a must-win for the former Bayer Leverkusen boss. While Alonso was spared the sack after that defeat, with rival Barcelona now enjoying a sizeable lead at the top of La Liga, another loss today would likely bring an early end to what will have been a painfully short spell at the Bernabéu.

The host, meanwhile, has 18 points from its opening 15 matches, with the Basque side still buzzing from last weekend's 1-0 win at home to Real Sociedad -- a result that pushed Eduardo Coudet's team up to 11th in the table.

Deportivo Alavés faces Real Madrid at the Estadio Mendizorrotza in Vitoria-Gasteiz on Sunday, Dec. 14. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CET local time, 3 p.m. ET or 12 p.m. PT in the US and Canada, 8 p.m. GMT in the UK and a 7 a.m. AEDT kickoff in Australia on Monday morning.
