‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ Trailer: Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey Source Dinosaur DNA in Return to OG Premise

Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey are setting out to save the “Jurassic World” franchise.

Following the lackluster 2022 film “Jurassic World: Dominion,”Jurassic World: Rebirth” is taking its title quite literally. The original “Jurassic Park” scribe David Koepp, who wrote Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic, penned the script; “Rogue One” director Gareth Edwards is behind the camera.

The fourth “Jurassic World” film is set five years after the events of “Dominion,” with Johansson and Bailey’s respective characters tasked with securing DNA samples from three specific kinds of dinosaurs that span the air, land, and sea. Remember, after “Dominion,” the planet has become inhospitable to dinosaurs as a whole, with those that still exist have been isolated to environments that mimic the conditions in which they once thrived. Yet it turns out that the three biggest creatures in the tropical biosphere have materials for a drug that could save human lives. It’s a big shift from the other “Jurassic” movies in which the dinos end human lives.

Johansson plays covert operations expert Zora Bennett, who leads the top-secret mission. “Wicked” scene-stealer Bailey is paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis. Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali joins the tentpole franchise as Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s (Johansson) team leader. Rupert Friend stars as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs, who employs the aforementioned task force.

Manuel Garcio-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein co-star.

“Jurassic World: Rebirth” is produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley. Steven Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart, and Jim Spencer are serving as executive producers. The film is an Amblin Entertainment production.

Edwards previously told Empire that the film “goes back to what I loved about the original,” adding that it has a Spielberg sensibility. He later told EW that “Rebirth” is a “brand-new chapter in this franchise” and “a giant love letter” to Spielberg.

“To me, it’s a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films,” Edwards said to EW. “There are moments in this movie that remind me very much of ‘Jaws.’ It’s like little greatest hits of all those aspects of his films that I loved growing up as a child.”

“Jurassic World: Rebirth” premieres July 2 in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
